Core Analytical Laboratory (CAL)

Overview of Services

The Core Analytical Laboratory (CAL) is a core facility located on the University of Nevada, Reno campus, and is dually operated by the Nevada Agricultural Experiment Station and the USDA Agricultural Research Service. We specialize in agriculturally related laboratory analyses and offer a wide variety of equipment and instrumentation as well as training and services.

We offer three pricing tiers:
     1) Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) members that analyze their own samples,
     2) NSHE members that submit samples for analysis by the CAL staff, and
     3) non-NSHE members.

Our analytical equipment includes:
     • Inductively Coupled Plasma (–AES [Agilent 4210], and –MS [Shimadzu 2030])
     • Gas Chromatography (–MS [Shimadzu QP2020], FID [Agilent 6890N], ECD [Agilent 6890+])
     • Elemental Analysis [Leco CN 928]
     • Flow Injection Analysis [Astoria-Pacific]
     • UV-Visible Spectrophotometry [Thermo-Spectronic Genesys 20]
     • Microwave Digestion [Anton Paar Multiwave GO]
     • Particle Size Analysis
